Nederhorst Den Berg, North-Holland

Nederhorst den Berg is a picturesque village on the river Vecht. The eye-catcher here is Nederhorst Castle, also known as “Bommelstein”, the castle from Lord Bommel's stories. Originally built around 1300, it is surrounded by a moat and beautiful gardens. Also worth seeing is the historic church street with 17-century national monuments. For nature lovers, there are plenty of cycling and walking routes along the Vecht and through the surrounding polder landscape. The cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht are also within easy reach, which is ideal if you want to spend a day shopping.
