The surrounding area is ideal for hiking, cycling, swimming, and boating. Take a day trip to the Wadden Island of Schiermonnikoog or visit the Pieterburen seal sanctuary. The harbor of Lauwersoog is a sight to behold, and for shopping, head to Dokkum, just 12 kilometers from Lauwersoog, or Groningen, about 40 kilometers from Lauwersoog.
