Twijzelerheide is a small village in Friesland. Twijzelerheide is close to Veenwouden, a village with the predecessor of castles: a stins. In this place, you can admire Cultural Historic Centre De Schierstins. It is the only preserved tower castle in the northern Netherlands. In Twijzelerheide and its surroundings you can find pingoruïnes: remnants of mounds of ice. These are definitely worth a visit. Twijzelerheide is located near the Bûtefjild nature reserve. Here you can cycle, walk and sail. The routes take you along different landscapes with many special plant and animal species. Children are also thought of: in Twijzelerheide, Sanjes Safari is highly recommended.
