Location and surroundings

The centre of Balk is characterised by the little river Luts, which winds its way through the beautiful row of canals to the lake. Strolling along the canal is lovely and the restaurants serve excellent food. Slotermeer, the Luts and Balk are part of the now famous Frisian Elfstedentocht, which makes it extra special to holiday here. It is also worth exploring the forests of Rijs or getting a breath of fresh air at the Mirnser Klif, which is an Eldorado for kitesurfers due to its location on the IJsselmeer. Water sports resorts such as Sneek, Lemmer, Woudsend, Heeg and Terhorne are not to be missed, as are the villages of Sloten, Stavoren, Makkum, Workum and Hindeloopen.
