Nearby are the historic fortified village of Bourtange and the wooded Westerwolde, where you'll find beautiful hiking and cycling routes. Located just across the Drenthe border you will find the beautiful surroundings of Vlagtwedde: an ideal base for wonderful walking and cycling tours. Explore the watery area by canoe or spend a day shopping in the lively student city of Groningen. A visit to the historic fortified town of Bourtange is also possible and highly recommended. For children there is also plenty to do in the area. Think for example of Wildlands in Emmen or Plopsaland Indoor in Coevorden. There are also several museums nearby: visit, among others, the Prison Museum in Veenhuizen, the Hunebedcentrum in Borger, the Remembrance Center Camp Westerbork or Museum Village Orvelte.
