Location and surroundings: Oldemarkt, Overijssel
The group accommodation is located in a beautiful 3,000 hectare nature reserve 'De Weerribben'. This environment has the necessary surprises in store every season. You can cycle endlessly through the golden-yellow reed collars, vast meadows over historic polder dikes. Carefree you can laze around or stroll through the woods and heathland. 'Whisper sailing' is something unique that the Weerribben-Wieden area has the patent on. You can visit Kalenberg, a beautiful unspoilt water village or the visitor center in Ossenzijl, where you can see and see how the otter has been re-plotted in the Weerribben area. A few kilometers away is Giethoorn, the 'Venice of the North' and the city of Steenwijk.
Along the old Zuiderzee route you will find the inviting towns of Blokzijl and Vollenhove, where cannons and powder houses are the only witnesses to the threatening sea. A visit to Schokland tells you a lot about the history of the former Zuiderzee. In Luttelgeest there is a covered orchid farm with a butterfly garden where you can spend a day in bad weather. A little further, but certainly worthwhile is National Park 'the Dwingelerveld' in Drenthe.
The Dwingelerveld consists mainly of coniferous forests and partly of heathland with a herd of sheep. There are various cycle paths in the area and there is a beautiful network of hiking trails. The Dolmen in Havelte and a number of nature reserves in the immediate vicinity are also special. For example, about 20 kilometers north-east of Steenwijk, partly in Drenthe, partly in Friesland, lies the 'Drents-Friese Wold'. The afforestation is alternated by open drifting sand areas, heathland fields and fens.
In the summer months you can visit the outdoor swimming pool 'Tolhekke', which is about 5 kilometers away from the group accommodation.
For the children there are many options in the area. in Emmen, for example, is the 'Wildlands' animal park where young and old can enjoy a day long. In the Flevopolder is the amusement park Walibi, in Slagharen is the amusement park 'Slagharen' and in Hijken (near Beilen) is Speelstad Oranje. Heerenveen is home to the Thialf indoor ice rink and the Ballorig indoor playground.
