Location and surroundings

Burgh-Haamstede, Zeeland

From Burgh-Haamstede, the whole of Schouwen-Duiveland is actually at your feet. Burgh and Haamstede were once independent villages, but have grown together to form a tourist resort. In the village, you will find the more than 50-metre-high Westerlichttoren lighthouse. Built in 1837, it is one of the largest lighthouses in the Netherlands. Definitely worth a visit! From here, authentic Zierikzee, popular Renesse and historical Bruinisse (also known as the mussel village) are also highly recommended and easy to reach. Prefer a day of culture? Then visit Deltapark Neeltje Jans or the Watersnoodmuseum in Ouwerkerk; both also very interesting.

Overall, a lovely holiday, a relatively quiet location (a bit of noise now and then, but the construction company's site is a bit far away), a lovely house with good amenities (I didn't miss anything!). Very clean – no bad smell, beds, etc., everything was fine. We consider it too small for 8 people. The toilet is really very small.

The bedrooms were reminiscent of a youth hostel. The house is advertised for 8 people. The three of us, including our dog, found it completely overcrowded. The garden is extremely dangerous for dogs, as it's a construction site. There are piles of paving stones, sidewalk slabs, and wooden posts everywhere, ready to fall over at any moment.
